Hub City Wind Project Details

The Hub City Wind Project is a proposed utility-scale wind energy project being developed by Alliant Energy in portions of Marathon County and surrounding communities. Current project plans indicate approximately 28–38 wind turbines, each standing between 580 and 680 feet tall and utilizing a 4.5 MW turbine model. The number of turbines has been reduced from earlier concepts due to increased turbine size.

Wind energy projects in Wisconsin are regulated by state laws and administrative rules, including Wisconsin Administrative Code PSC 128 and Wisconsin Statute 66.0401, which establish standards for project siting, setbacks, noise limits, permitting, and local government authority. Under current PSC 128 standards, wind turbines must generally be located at least 1,250 feet from a non-participating residence, and project noise levels are limited to 45 decibels during nighttime hours and 50 decibels during daytime hours when measured at a non-participating residence. Maps showing participating land parcels have been presented at public meetings and will remain available for review at Town Board meetings.

Alliant Energy has indicated that it hopes to submit its application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission in September 2026. Once the application is filed and deemed complete, the PSC review process will begin and is expected to include environmental review, public information meetings, public comment opportunities, and a formal review by the Commission. Interested residents, organizations, and local governments may have the opportunity to request intervenor status, allowing them to formally participate in the proceeding. While the exact schedule will be determined by the PSC, residents can likely expect opportunities for public involvement beginning in late 2026 or early 2027, with a final PSC decision potentially occurring in 2027.

The Town of Day will continue to share information and updates as they become available so residents can stay informed throughout the review process.
